I had never used a salad spinner nor had I ever owned one before. Honestly, for quite some time, I thought of salad spinners as a “just another fancy kitchen tool” that I would spend my money on and never use again. OK, maybe just once or twice at the beginning. Plus, I wasn’t sure if I could find room for this slightly bulky plastic container.
In the past, I would use clean kitchen towels by placing the wet salad greens in the center and grabbing all four corners over the lettuce and spin it around, like a lasso. Some water was absorbed by the towel, and some landed on my kitchen floor! 🙂
Confession: The wet towels and wet floors drove me nuts. I also tried the “pat dry” method, but the lettuce was still too wet. It would dilute my vinaigrette. Argh! 🙂
Then, times changed! We were hosting a small BBQ gathering, and I made several green salads. You guessed it. Six wet towels and a little pond on the floor. That was it! On the exact same day, I went online and ordered a salad spinner.
I came across the Ozeri salad spinner on Amazon that was BPA-free (big plus!!!), and because I had their non-stick frying pans (with ETERNA, a PFOA and APEO-free non-stick coating) that I loved, I ordered it.
Well, needless to say, I was quickly impressed and wished I would have had a salad spinner sooner.
It dries the salad greens quickly and gently after washing them. It also serves as an efficient container for washed and dried lettuce, keeping it crisp and fresh for days.
Yes, it is an almost single-use tool, and, yes, it takes up a lot of room, but it is also very efficient and easy to use. I said goodbye to my wet towels, puddles on the floor and diluted vinaigrette 3 years ago! Ever since I got this salad spinner, I’ve noticed that I prepare more salads. But, what I can’t tell you is that it automatically made me lose weight! Ha ha! I wish! What is your take on the salad spinners?
